Baska Voda is a municipality in the Split-Dalmatia County. It is located in the central part of the Croatian Adriatic coast, in Central Dalmatia, 48 km south of Split, in the western part of Riviera Makarska, at the foot of the mountain Biokovo (43° 21' north latitude and 16° 57' east longitude). Once a village of farmers and fishermen, traders and sailors, Baska Voda is now a modern tourist resort with all the amenities and features of a small Mediterranean town.

In Baska Voda, as in other areas of the municipality, there are numerous hotels, inns, campgrounds and holiday resorts. Tourism is the main activity of the local population.

  • Location
    Baska Voda is situated at the foot of a mountain Biokovo slope, in the most attractive part of the Riviera Makarska. Pure nature, virgin beaches and crystal waters that the sun shines its rays made it one of the most desirable tourist destinations in Dalmatia. A perfect starting point for all half-day and full-day excursions to Dubrovnik, Krka National Park, Biokovo Nature Park, town of Split, islands Hvar and Brac, river Cetina canyon and cities in the inland that are rich in historical, cultural and religious ways.

  • History
    Archaeological finds evidence of life in this area about four thousand years BC, and the main motive for settling this area was the drinking water source. From that time until today, there is a continuity of settlement in Baska Voda.

 

  • Sights
    The first public building is church of St. Lawrence , built in 1750th in late Baroque style on the foundations of ancient buildings. The church of St. Nicholas was built in the year 1889. in neo-Romanesque style. There are also two major museum collections in the old part of Baska Voda: an archaeological museum collection and a very rich and quality malacological collection (sea shells collection). There is a bronze statue of the Baska Voda patron St. Nicholas at the entrance to the harbor in the center of town.
